Trump defends tweets, says, “I don’t have a racist bone in my body”

July 18, 2019

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump said he was not racist after releasing a few tweets attacking political opponents that some have interpreted as racist.

“Those tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body! The so-called vote to be taken is a Democrat con game,” the president tweeted. “Republicans should not show “weakness” and fall into their trap. This should be a vote on the filthy language, statements and lies told by the Democrat…..”

“…..Congresswomen, who I truly believe, based on their actions, hate our Country. Get a list of the HORRIBLE things they have said. Omar is polling at 8%, Cortez at 21%. Nancy Pelosi tried to push them away, but now they are forever wedded to the Democrat Party. See you in 2020!”

The tweets that have drawn such calls of racism were made earlier this week by the president in which he said, without addressing anyone in particular though alluding to statements made by certain Democratic lawmakers, “IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE!”

“We will never be a Socialist or Communist Country. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE! It is your choice, and your choice alone. This is about love for America. Certain people HATE our country….”

“….They are anti-Israel, pro Al-Qaeda, and comment on the 9/11 attack, ‘some people did something.’ Radical Left Democrats want Open Borders, which means drugs, crime, human trafficking, and much more….”

“….Detention facilities are not Concentration Camps! America has never been stronger than it is now – rebuilt Military, highest Stock Market EVER, lowest unemployment and more people working than before. Keep America Great!”

The president’s tweets alluded to Representative Ilhan Omar’s (D-Mn.) statement in which she described the September 11 attacks as “some people did something” when describing Muslim Americans losing civil liberties following the attacks.

The president also alluded to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that migrant detention centers are like “concentration camps,” a term picked up by some of her supporters when addressing the border crisis.

On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez fired back at the president, tweeting, “Hey Mr. President, remember when you bragged about sexually assaulting women, talking about feeling their breasts and genitals, because ‘when you’re a star they let you do it?'”

“And then you imposed DOE policies to make it harder for sexual assault survivors to report assault?”

In her tweet, Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the Access Hollywood tape in which Trump, speaking with Billy Bush, shared what he called “locker room talk.”

Ocasio-Cortez followed up with another tweet, condemning Trump.

“Donald Trump has decided he does not want to be the President of the United States,” she tweeted. “He does not want to be a President to those who disagree. And he’d rather see most Americans leave than handle our nation’s enshrined tradition of dissent. But we don’t leave the things we love.”

On Monday, four Congresswomen who felt they were the targets of the attack, spoke out against the president. These women included Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Representatives Ayanna Pressley (D-Ma.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mi.).

“This is the agenda of white nationalists,” said Omar. “Whether it is happening in chat rooms, or it is happening on national TV, now it’s reached the White House garden. This is his plan to pit us against one another.”

“We ran on a mandate to advocate for and represent those ignored, left out, and left behind,” said Pressley. “Our squad is big. Our squad includes any person committed to building a more equitable and just world. And that is the work we want to get back to. Given the size of this squad and this great nation, we cannot, we will not be silenced.”
