Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Russia next week, according to a statement from the State Department.
On Tuesday, next week, Pompeo is set to meet Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss “the full range of bilateral and multilateral challenges.”
This meeting comes amidst tensions between the two nations over heightening violence in Venezuela between President Maduro’s government and opposition forces led by self-declared interim president Juan Guaido. The two nations are also at odds regarding North Korea and Iran.
Last week, President Donald Trump and Putin shared a lengthy phone call in which the two discussed the “Russian hoax” as stated by President Trump, as well as other issues except for Russian interference in future U.S. elections.
