On Monday, Apple announced the latest Mac Pro and its price tag – a whopping $5,999. With 28 cores, 4TB of SSD storage, 1.5TB of RAM, and a capability to hold up to 4 GPUs, this machine was not built for average consumers, rather as a workstation for professional film makers and musicians.

The computer boasts a 32 inch screen with Apple Pro Display XDR, which has Retina 6K display with P3 wide and 10-bit color, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The Mac Pro introduces Apple Afterburner – an accelerator card that can support playback of three 8K ProRes RAW video streams simultaneously.
Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said, “We designed Mac Pro for users who require a modular system with extreme performance, expansion and configurability. With its powerful Xeon processors, massive memory capacity, groundbreaking GPU architecture, PCIe expansion, Afterburner accelerator card and jaw-dropping design, the new Mac Pro is a monster that will enable pros to do their life’s best work.”
“Pro Display XDR is the world’s best pro display and the perfect companion to the all-new Mac Pro,” Schiller continued. “With Retina 6K resolution, gorgeous color, extreme brightness and contrast ratio, and a highly functional design, Pro Display XDR delivers the most comprehensive set of features ever offered on any display at this price point.”
The Mac Pro also has eight PCIe expansion slots, 64 PCIe lanes, and over 300W of power along its thermal architecture to the 28-core Xeon processor.
One of the most noticeable changes to the Mac Pro is its modular customization. With smooth handles at the top of the case to allow the Mac Pro to be easily moved about as well as an aluminum housing that lifts off for 360-degree access to the entire system, the machine was built with ease of access in mind.
The case is designed in a lattice fashion (kind of like a cheese grater) to maximize airflow and allow for a quiet operation.
The Mac Pro will be available to order in the fall and will start at $5,999, with the Pro Display XDR starting at $4,999. The Pro Stand will be $999 and the VESA Mount Adapter will be $199.
