On Sunday, President Donald Trump told members of the media to “go in and see” migrant detention centers amid reports of horrible conditions and overcrowding.
“What we’re going to do is I’m going to start showing some of these detention centers… to the press,” he said when asked if he would visit the Customs and Border Protection Facility in Clint, Texas.
“I want the press to go in and see them,” he added. “We’re going to send people in. We’re going to have some of the press go in.”
Democratic lawmakers recently toured two Texas border facilities and expressed anger at the condition in which the migrants were held, with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York saying migrants were “drinking out of toilets.”
“They’re crowded, and we’re the ones who were complaining about their crowding,” said the president.
“They’re crowded because people come up, but now thanks to Mexico it’s slowing down greatly,” he said. “But it is crowded, but we want to have the press go in and see.”
