DJ Khaled threw a tantrum when his latest album “Father of Asahd” debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Music charts behind Tyler, the Creator’s “Igor,” according to a Page Six report.
“He stormed into Epic with an entourage,” a source told Page Six. When projections for his album appeared to put him in second place, “he was angry and yelling. He threw a temper tantrum.” Khaled reportedly blamed label heads for not understanding streaming services and bundle deals.
According to another source, Khaled did not hesitate to voice his displeasure. “No. 2 won’t do for Khaled,” said the source. “He was not happy when the album didn’t debut at No. 1… Not happy at all.”
An industry insider added, “He was furious. There was some nasty stuff said. Publicly, he’s all about ‘positivity,’ but there is a mean side to him that people don’t see… He overhyped the record and blew it up as his biggest album ever.”
Despite releasing seven music videos, performing on SNL, hosting flashy launch parties, and loading the album with big-name stars like Cardi B, Meek Mill, and SZA, Khaled’s “Father of Asahd” debuted at number 2 behind Tyler, the Creator’s fifth studio album “Igor,” which is the LA rapper’s first album to debut at number one.
Another source said Khaled was infuriated when he learned that about 100,000 of his album downloads sold through an energy drink bundle deal weren’t included in his Billboard sales.
“Khaled was upset that his label wasn’t fighting for him and fighting for those numbers to count, which could have propelled him to No. 1,” said the source. “They don’t get it.”
In a now-deleted Instagram video post, DJ Khaled seemed to be taking shots at Tyler, the Creator’s album “Igor,” saying Khaled makes “albums so people can play it, and you actually hear it… it’s called great music, it’s called albums that you actually hear the songs, not no mysterious shit where you never hear it…” potentially jabbing the grainy mix on “Igor.”
I tried to tell y’all DJ Khaled felt a type of way about losing to Tyler when he posted then deleted this on IG 😂 pic.twitter.com/MNTjqSuoMt
